Life Is A Journey
Has your life been unbelievably hard to do you feel like everyone else’s life has been better than yours? Have you had some majorly crazy events happen in your life? Do you constantly feel like you’re going around the mulberry bush? I’m here to share the journey that God took me on with Him so that you can have a reference point and someone with whom you can relate. God cares deeply for you and wants to have his relationship with you. I know for some of you that may be hard to believe, but it’s true I’m not here to label myself or put myself down to label you or to put you down; that’s not the point; the point is I want to share the goodness of God with you so that you will feel ever so important and as loved as I do now. It was a long journey, but it was worth it. And you matter because God made you and created you just for Himself. Yes, you have parents, and I have parents, but ultimately, we were created to have a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord. And God is constantly wooing us back to Himself because he deeply loves you and me.
In The Beginning
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth; somewhere in the equation, he thought me up too. Praise the Lord! I grew up in a small town in Maine. I grew up working on a dairy farm where we had 50 milking- head and raised calves, and at one time, we raised chickens too. As if one barn wasn’t enough, my industrious grandparents built and restored two other barns with plenty of acreages to manage.
I am the oldest of five kids. My parents were young when they had me; they did have some high school education but didn’t graduate. They were faithful to each other and were young and in love. My parents were devoted to each other until they divorced, which never would have happened. My grandmother interfered nonstop throughout their marriage, so they had help splitting up. I have something to say about that hot mess: “What God has joined together,” and I’ll paraphrase, ” stay the hell out of it!”
The stories I will be sharing in this blog are necessary to gain insight into my way of thinking, but in no uncertain terms are my parents or my grandparents to blame. When I’m talking about them, you will need to understand the culture of the day. You will have to understand the great depression, and you need to understand how children were raised before the 1980s. Laws had changed concerning children. I’m sure it was not all for the better; for instance, it was common practice to spank your unruly children in public; if a child took it too far with a parent, corporal punishment was coming! Did your parents ever tell you to go out and cut a switch? Sometime in the late 1980s, this practice changed, and you would start hearing the term “child abuse” then, if you corrected your screaming unruly children in public, you could go to jail. No more “properly” correcting your children. You could have the police come to your home, and the Department of Human Services (DHS) would have no problem removing children from their homes.
My parents and grandparents worked extremely hard, and they have their stories and your relatives have their stories too! I want to share a journey about how God worked in and through my family’s lives and is restoring our relationships. Many miracles have occurred along this journey. Both my parents are amazing people; they are not the same as they used to be. May God be praised! Much of this content is from an innocent child’s perspective. I’ve forgiven everything that was said and done because God helped me to forgive them. God gets all the glory and honor in everything I say. I can’t sing my dad’s or my mom’s praises enough.
I’m Not Religious
You will understand what I am saying if you are religious like I used to be. You all know the rules, don’t you? The rules you know you can’t keep ten ways too sideways, even if you tried. Maybe, like myself, you grew up seated in the back of the church while your parents tried to listen to the sermon without being distracted. Some of you may even know all the children’s Bible stories and can sing all the children’s songs and old hymns. You may even think you know all about God and how He created the heavens and the earth, and yes, you too. If I thought I knew it all, I had no clue how profoundly loving and deeply personal God was and how intimately He was interacting with me in my life. As we go along, you will realize that adage that hindsight is twenty-twenty is so true. And the things you once thought were so true was an illusion because you will realize like I once did, that someone elses’ crazy was your normal.
